Developmental Assessments

Balanced Learning Center offers comprehensive developmental assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. These assessments are designed to help individuals and families better understand neurodevelopmental profiles, including questions related to autism, ADHD, executive functioning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, learning differences, and other neurodivergent experiences.

Rather than using a “one size fits all” process, our assessments are highly individualized and tailored to the needs of the person being evaluated. The goal is to provide meaningful clinical insight that supports next steps at home, at school, in relationships, and in daily life.

Assessments typically take place across 2–4 visits and may include:

  • A detailed developmental and psychosocial history

  • Clinical interviews and targeted screening measures

  • Behavioral and functional observations

  • Review of relevant documents (school records, prior evaluations, treatment history, etc.)

  • Collaboration with caregivers and other providers when appropriate

  • Optional observation in real-world settings, such as school, home, or the workplace, when clinically indicated

At the conclusion of the assessment, families receive clear feedback and individualized recommendations. When needed, recommendations may include:

  • Support strategies and accommodations

  • School-based recommendations and language families can use with teams

  • Treatment planning recommendations

  • Referrals for additional evaluation or specialized services

Please note: While our developmental assessments are comprehensive and clinically robust, Balanced Learning Center does not provide the educational/cognitive testing component typically included in a full neuropsychological evaluation.

Speech & Language Evaluation

Balanced Learning Center offers comprehensive speech and language evaluations for children and adolescents. These evaluations are designed to better understand a child’s communication profile and identify strengths and support needs in areas such as:

  • Expressive language (using words/sentences to communicate)

  • Receptive language (understanding language)

  • Social communication / pragmatic language (conversation skills, perspective-taking, interpreting social cues)

  • Speech sound production / articulation

  • Fluency (stuttering)

  • Language processing and communication breakdowns in real-world settings

Families often seek a speech and language evaluation when a child is experiencing:

  • Difficulty communicating needs, thoughts, or emotions

  • “Shutting down” socially at school or in groups

  • Challenges with back-and-forth conversation or peer interaction

  • Concerns about language delays or speech clarity

  • Misunderstandings with peers/teachers due to communication differences

Evaluations typically include:

  • Parent/caregiver interview and developmental history

  • Standardized and informal assessment measures

  • Observation of communication style and functional language use

  • Review of relevant records (school reports, prior evaluations, IEPs, etc.) when available

At the conclusion of the evaluation, families receive a clear summary of findings and individualized recommendations, which may include strategies and supports for home and school, and referrals for services when appropriate.

Occupational Therapy Evaluation

Balanced Learning Center offers occupational therapy evaluations to better understand a child’s functional skills and support needs related to daily routines, participation, and regulation.

OT evaluations may explore areas such as:

Sensory processing and sensory regulation

Fine motor and visual-motor skills

Executive functioning and daily living routines

Emotional regulation and body-based supports for learning

Families receive a clear summary of findings and individualized recommendations for home, school, and community supports, with referrals for services as appropriate.
